Iulian is an inspiring photographer that i had the honour of meeting in real life. He's on deviantART for more than 6 years now and i got him to answer us a few questions, so you can meet him too!
You are a very successful artist, what do you believe are your most important features that made you pop out of the crowd?
I don't consider myself talented, I practice a lot and still try to improve. First of all, I started photography by doing lots and lots of shot, and those got the attention of the public I might say. In time, I've perfected the concepts, editing, composition etc, but the idea still stands.
I try to do something different with all shots, and the photo sessions to be different from one another.
What do you look for in your models? What qualities do you appreciate the most in them?
Expression is the key to success. Also, the eyes. I believe the eyes are the doorway to the soul, a good portrait shot is 90% successful if the model has beautiful eyes. Of course, I appreciate the sensuality and the posing as well.
What inspires you the most? When inspiration comes, do you feel you have to shoot right away or do you plan in advance?
Everything can inspire. If I got an idea, first I plan, than I set up the shoot, find the proper model for my concept, and so on.
As a photographer, what skills do you consider to be the most important to achieve an astonishing result?
Many would say the camera. That's important, but don't forget about the Composition and Editing.
Most of the artists wish for their own style. Do you believe you have one?
I don't have a style. I do lots of type of photography, for every job / client / setup / concept.
What are your favourite tools and how were you introduced to them? Did you experimented or someone recommened them to you? Do you have any favourite equipment item that you take everywhere with you?
I got my current tools in time. I started from a 5mp compact camera, and now I got a Canon EOS 40D, which I love very much. I changed 6 or 7 cameras in time. My favorite piece of equipment is the 50mm 1.8 lens. I take it everywhere!
What role has deviantART in your artistic life? Do you use it solely to expose your art or you also make friends and learn? Why did you join?
I joined dA to expose my art when I first started with photography. In time I've got more involved into it, and I became known (a bit). I like the community and the concept.
Show us the pieces that you are most proud of. Do they have a story behind them? What is the reason you consider them your favourites?
I think the shots with famous artists got my "fame". I love the series with ~WildRainOfIceAndFire. There's no story behind them, it was a concept I shared with ~ideea to make a photo session with ~WildRainOfIceAndFire
. It turned out to be amazing!
Regarding your own art, what do you think has been your greatest achievement so far?
I never thought about that. Im proud because some love my work. I've been featured in some publications, articles, but the thing I like the most is that some are still following my art after all these years.
Do you have favourite artists on deviantART or outside this site? Could you show us some art that you like and/or inspire you?
How do you choose your models for your works?
That depends. Some of the models that I've worked with came from modeling sites. Some from dA, some from friend's friends. Now, I choose the model that I consider its the best for the current concept.
Is there anything else you would like to add? A few words for your audience and/or other artists, maybe?
Be original, practice a lot, feel free to try everything you like regarding your own ideas. Dont steal art, create it.
