PE Interview with =agnes-cecile

Mon Sep 24, 2012, 4:46 AM

Silvia is, without any doubt, one of the most marking figures of this site. Many thousands love her works and some artists consider her to be the role model of their artistic life. Instead of rambling about how she is a popular figure of this site, i decided to show you what other people think of her.
Green-EyedGhost says: "Her art is inspiring, emotional, brilliant, incredible, indescribable. Her every single work is what actually can be called art. She always inspires me, she is the most amazing artist I've ever seen in my life!"
airheadOMer completes: "...she has a brilliant and copious use of color. All her work is very intricate and lavish while remaining fairly luminous and simple. It has a wonderful flow to it and is, basically, quite beautiful. She has ineffable talent and her work shows that."
With this being said, let's see what agnes-cecile has to say!

You are a very successful artist, what do you believe are your most important features that made you pop out of the crowd?

I think it was always important that I make simple images, easy pictures to be appreciated by any kind of person. I talk just for the aesthetic aspect, what strikes in the surface. The abstract parts in my paintings are mixed with a strong realism that helps to approach also people that usually aren't interested in abstract stuff, the recognizable figure in my painting is as an anchor.

did you miss it? by agnes-cecile

What do you want to express through your artworks? What inspires you the most?

When I look my paintings I see them as pages of a diary, but this is just for me. I don't want my images to clearly describe my thoughts, from my artworks i want to stand out just the same feeling that I felt, not the story behind it. So, my everyday life pushes me to paint and inspires me, but for who looks the result is just a mirror of my feelings.

this thing called art is really dangerous by agnes-cecile

In your opinion, the quality of your art depends more on technique or on its message?

As I wrote, the message is a memorandum for me, rarely someone reads exactly what I was saying in a painting, it's not a problem of course! But for this I think that technique is more important, I'm able to represent a feeling, but my message is just my inner thought. If I wanted to talk about important messages to the people, I would write, not paint.

e non ci sara' nessuno by agnes-cecile

Your works are particularly realistic and detailed - do you believe that what you do requires a particular skill or it's just about the practice?
What skills do you consider to be the most important?

The real skill that I posses is that i am able to focus myself on what I want and understand how to grow up in that way, all the artistic skills are a consequence of this; I wanted to paint in a certain way and so I started with a lot of practice. Real skill is just understanding how to start and move on to achieve your goals.

Forever yours, Freckles by agnes-cecile

Most of the artists wish for their own style. How would you describe yours, and how did you develop it?

I don't have a real answer, I make human emotional portraits, I start from human figure and I add lines and colors to arrive to something approximately close to what I had in mind. I developed it looking into the line and these forms, I was interested how lines can make figures and how figures can make forms, all the abstract in my works is an extension of the subject, after this start all the work was to try, try and try, make experiments and a lot of errors.

l'assenza by agnes-cecile

What are your favourite tools and how were you introduced to them? Did you experimented or someone recommened them to you?

My favourites are two tools apparently so different: watercolor and varnish. I like them because I use it apparently random, I give great freedom to the tools, I guide this freedom, I "trust" them ahahah, I know that if I make a specific movement they will create a specific and elaborate form, maybe don't immediately visible, but just wait for the results! Watercolor was totally experimented by myself, varnish was recommended from an art teacher.

What role has deviantART in your artistic life? Do you use it solely to expose your art or you also make friends and learn? Why did you join?

DeviantArt was really important in my artistic life, it's a great medium to enter into relationship with the rest of the world, it made my career year after year, making it something of real. I started scrolling for hours deviantART's pages when I was 13! It was a window on what I wanted to try doing. Over the years I found a lot of lovely and young artists as myself, people with which i confront myself better than I could do in my class room everyday. I find myself growing on similar ways of other deviantART's artists, it's really nice to see how we can develop ourselves.

about a new place - project by agnes-cecile

Regarding your own art, what do you think has been your greatest achievement so far?

Perhaps to be able to organize totally by myself, my second solo exhibition, see a real recognition to the whole theoretical popularity that I have on the web and meet real people who wanted to see beyond a digital file.

my eyes refuse to accept passive tears by agnes-cecile

Show us the pieces that you are most proud of. Do they have a story behind them? What is the reason you consider them your favourites?

Hard question! I have more different favourites for different types, but the reason is always the same, my favourite paintings are the ones that evoke emotions in me in the first place, those which really work with my head. To give some titles: "la nostra infinita abnegazione", "drawing restraint", "you are not wrong", "the uneasiness creeps through each rib", "for each beat of his heart", "vedendo bianco", "my purity is in accepting all the flaws", "volontà di violenza".

Do you have favourite artists on deviantART?

DeviantART is full of great artists and everyone I like is also an inspiration to me, some of them are Carnegriff BenoitPaille, Fahad0850, alicexz, vhm-Alex, laura-makabresku, kikyz1313, gunnmgally, Ryohei-Hase, winst, trance-orange and SeaFairy.

lines hold the memories by agnes-cecile

How do you choose your models? Did it ever happen to have a stranger come to you and ask if they can be your model?

I prefer I don't have relations with the models that I use, I use aseptic faces and then I add specific features. I need models to make realistic portraits, but I just use pictures to work with shadows and lights. I never work with real models, I always use photos, often of fashion models. When I can't find the right expression or pose, I use myself. Yes, people ask to model for me really often, but I only accept that for my rare commissioned works.

stupidly tiny (about two years ago) by agnes-cecile

Is there anything else you would like to add? A few words for your audience and/or other artists, maybe?

Everything you do don't overdo it, be balanced with yourself.
