I hope you will find this informative and entertaining!

Interviewed artist: FionaHsieh :iconfionahsieh:

:bulletyellow: Tell us what defines you as a person.

Arriving at Calarts a couple years ago and meeting so many warm, passionate, and wonderful people truly taught me to love diversity. Loving people from your heart and sharing love every day is the most important thing you can offer!

:bulletyellow: How did you find out about deviantART and why did you join the community?

I used to play neopets a few years ago- I found out about DeviantArt through other artists who were also on neopets when I was 12, and posted their deviantart link. :D I still have some neopet art around my gallery from before!

:bulletyellow: When and how did you discover your passion for art?

I've always been drawing by myself or with my friends, every day, ever since I can remember. Since coming to deviantArt, I learned a lot, continued illustrating, and decided on the animation industry (where I'm focusing on the visual development field) in high school, kept drawing, and here I am now, still drawing! LOL

:bulletyellow: What inspires you the most and when do you think your creativity is at its maximum?

Music inspires me the most! When I find a song that just clicks, many pictures come into my head and I just have to choose one! No particular genre clicks, just whatever happens to match the mood that I'm trying to portray, whether it's a pop song or classical or some Disney song. Usually it's a new song that I never heard before, and then I loop it for the few hours that I'm drawing that particular painting until I finish. I'm not even totally sure how the click works. LOL. I also like to look up all kinds of photography, which inspires much of my design! Looking and seeing as many things as possible.

:bulletyellow: What do you think you'd be doing if you hadn't chosen this path?

If I didn't care about having a realistic income, I'd be a dog trainer and volunteer at German Shepherd rescues... did you know that I'm obsessed with dogs? :D I have two amazing Miniature American Shepherds named Lancer and Roscoe who are taking classes in dog sports (agility and herding!). I've been extensively studying various dog breeds and dog behavior and training in my spare time for the past 4 years. I try to talk to as many experienced people as possible! The dog world is engaging and extremely interesting! :D

:bulletyellow: What do you think it's your most meaningful deviation and what makes it special? Does it have a story behind it?

Almost Nothing - It’s a drawing of me and Roscoe, when Lancer was still a puppy. I drew it after an afternoon of walking at Crystal Cove beach with her. In general, I hope it portrays the quiet, special feeling of having a deep bond with your dog. Just for reference, going back to that whole “music click” explanation, the song “Awaken” from Jane Eyre was the click for this drawing. =)

:bulletyellow: Do you have any insecurities regarding your art?

I'm terrible at drawing humans from imagination, so I veer away from drawing them, get no practice, and continue being terrible at them. It's hard to start drawing something you aren't good at, especially when your other strengths are so far ahead in comparison. It's much easier to just sit in your comfort zone. But if I want to be a well-rounded artist with no significant weakness, I need to just suck it up and start practicing them every day.

:bulletyellow: Did art ever helped you to deal with your life problems?

Always, when I was younger.. I always drew vent drawings when I was angry or sad. It was really funny?! LOL. It was always like a dragon sitting sadly on a cliff or a bull or wolf exploding with anger.

:bulletyellow: What is the one thing you always wanted to do but never got a chance to?

Travel the world, see many things, and expand our horizons LOL. I learned that the world is so much bigger than the people we know, and that we think it is.

:bulletyellow: A few words for our fellow artists?

If you could draw what you’re passionate about, chase your wildest dreams, and spread happiness and warmth to others every day, how would you live?
